More than 100 people, including community leaders and those suffering from chronic pain, filled Erie’s new medical marijuana dispensary Monday for an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Rise Erie, 2108 W. Eighth St., will open for business Wednesday. The dispensary — owned by Chicago-based GTI LLC — will sell oils, vape cartridges, transdermal patches, gels and ointments made with marijuana.
“GTI had a chance to go anywhere in the state and we chose Erie,” said Tim Hawkins, market president for GTI Pennsylvania. “It’s because we felt we would have the biggest impact here.”
Customers must have a medical marijuana identification card to purchase Rise Erie’s products. The cards are available through the Pennsylvania Department of Health to people with one of 17 qualifying medical conditions.
