A San Jacinto City councilman charged in June with running an illegal marijuana dispensary was accused this week of multiple acts of domestic violence.
Joel Lopez De Anda, 35, was arrested Thursday and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of spousal abuse and assault with a deadly weapon, among other charges. He was in jail Friday in lieu of $5 million bail.
Authorities began investigating Lopez around 3:30 p.m. Thursday and were led to Lake Park Drive and Ramona Expressway, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The investigation centered around a pair of domestic violence incidents — one reported Saturday in Los Angeles, the other reported Thursday in San Jacinto, according to Sgt. Wade Lenton.
In June, Lopez was charged with running an illegal marijuana dispensary in the city. As a condition of his bail, he was fitted with an ankle monitor.
“As the (domestic violence) investigation progressed, deputies learned Mr. Lopez had made statements to his bail agent that he intended to cut off the ankle monitor and flee the country,” the Riverside sheriff’s officials said in a news release this week.
