South Shore Buds set to light up the area this Fall – Wicked Local

This week, a sign will go up on Route 139 for a business that’s truly the first of its kind in Marshfield: recreational marijuana dispensary South Shore Buds.

“Our hope is, that when all is said and done, everyone in Marshfield is like, ‘this is great, this is the best thing that ever happened’,” owner Ben Virga said. “The members of the select board are all very supportive and think this is a good thing for the town. We’re very lucky.”

Virga’s company received approval from the town last year and build-out on the facility at 985 Plain St., formerly home to Buckles and Boards, has been ongoing since January. With work nearly complete, Virga hopes to submit final paperwork to the state Cannabis Control Commission within the coming weeks and open the dispensary in September.

Marshfield is one of few communities on the South Shore not to ban dispensaries after recreational marijuana was legalized by state vote; Pembroke, Hanover, Duxbury, Cohasset, Scituate, Norwell, Braintree and Weymouth all said no to having the facilities in their towns, which Virga said should benefit his company and, as a result, Marshfield, which will receive a 3 % tax on all sales.
